In 2021, Anderton & Co were a Sutton Coldfield-based chartered accountancy practice, working with SMEs and micro businesses across Birmingham and the Midlands. Their approach offered more than the year-end 'history lesson' and they took an active interest in their clients’ businesses as a whole, not just the spreadsheets.

The challenge.

Founder Daniel Anderton had a Wix website that had sat there doing nothing for years, his words, while the practice around it moved on.

The business had developed three specialist services it wanted to be known for, the Virtual Finance Office, Virtual Finance Director service, and Property Investor packages, and lockdown had pushed demand for exactly this kind of accountancy support. But clients didn’t always realise these services existed.

The website needed to reposition Anderton & Co around its specialisms while still offering the full range, and take over the administrative work of getting clients booked in.

Understanding the business first.

The project started with proper discovery, sitting down with Dan to understand everything the business meant to him and what it offered its clients, then building ideal customer personas, researching how people choose an accountant, and, just as importantly, why they stay.

That understanding shaped everything from which services led, to what tone the site took, and what the website needed to do rather than just say.

Dan, by his own admission, is a numbers man with little time for words, so writing all of the website’s copy became part of the scope. Because the discovery had been thorough, the copy was completed and signed off within a week, and the two rounds of revisions we’d planned for were never needed.

The build.

The design simplified the offering around the three specialist services Dan wanted more of, presented alongside the traditional accountancy function, with all copy written for search as well as for people.

The centrepiece was an integrated, automated booking system: clients choose the service that fits, book a slot directly with their accountant, and the system handles free appointments within existing relationships and chargeable calls alike, so the diary runs itself while Dan gets on with the numbers.

The results.

A website that repositioned the practice around its most valuable services, and took the booking admin off the accountant’s desk.

The specialist services got the visibility that growing demand deserved, and the practice got a site that works as part of the business rather than sitting beside it.

“I had a Wix website sitting there doing nothing for years and I knew I had to do something about it, I just never got around to it. After a few conversations I knew it was the right time to stop putting it off and tackle it head on. The process was made really easy with responsive and clear communication, a clear and focused discovery process, and a great website at the end of it all. I’ve also signed up to the Website Care Plan so they can look after my site whilst I get on with crunching numbers! I cannot recommend QUAFF highly enough.”
